Creating Art For Life

This is a blog about creating visual art. I think creating visually is one of the most effective ways to learn how to powerfully create your own life. There are so many things that we cannot control, and many times when the circumstances around us seem to be overwhelming. That is when it is important for us to realize our own power to create the kind of person we want to be and the kind of life we want to live, even in the midst of overwhelming circumstances. My other blog (creationconversation.blogspot.com) is about creation in all aspects of life. This one is about creating visual art, and from that practicing creating everywhere else. On this blog I will share my own creations, my classes I teach and participate in, and the creations of those around me. I hope to hear from you about your creations.

I am entering a new phase of my life. My youngest child, Joseph has moved into the dorms and started college this week. My two daughters are already living away at college. I have mixed feelings of celebration and concern as I see them learn about life on their own, make choices that bring difficult consequences and choices that bring joy and strength. When I find myself struggling with this time, I try to remember to create something visual. The exercise of visual creation has a way of strengthening the experience of joy, celebration and gratitude. Here is a picture of the painting I made for Joseph for his birthday this summer, an image of him that combines several points of view in the portrait, and includes personal symbolism. It helped me through a difficult time. Creation always does.
